I was excited this week to share one of my favorite books. I read it years ago and it impacted my life…The Precious Present. It’s a short but powerful story about a old man sharing the secret of the precious present with a little boy.

The little boy learned that…

  • The Precious Present has nothing to do with wishing.
  • When you have the Precious Present you are perfectly content to be where you are.
  • The wealth of the Precious Present comes only from itself.
  • The Precious Present is not something that someone gives you. It’s a gift that you give to yourself.

It took the little boy years of growing and searching to finally realize that the Precious Present was in fact THE PRESENT. He had the gift all along.

He learned that it is wise to think about the past and learn from the past but it is not wise to be IN the past.  For that is how you lose yourself.
He learned it is also wise to think about the future and to prepare for the future but it is not wise to be IN the future. For that too, is how you lose yourself.

And when you lose yourself, you lose what it most precious to you.

You can choose to be happy now or you can choose to be happy when…or if…

The present is simply who I am just the way I am…right now. And it is precious.

As we continue to learn about what it means to be PRESENT TO WIN this lesson today was another important piece in reminding us what it means to live in the present…and how important that is to us “winning” in every area of our lives.

When we don’t experience life to the fullest we look for ways to fill the void and we don’t experience life to the fullest when we are scattered, anxious, worried or distracted.

We experience life to the fullest when we are present. I might add, not free from pain or heartache or troubles…but present to feel them, express them, and surrender to them.

The Precious Present…here’s to all of us living in it…NOW!

Always encouraging you,

Letha
