I did something I rarely do at The Healthy Weigh this week…I talked about FOOD!  Yes, I said food. You’d think we’d do more of that but I’ve been in the weight loss business too long to think that our weight problems are about what we’re eating. But some days ya just gotta talk about food.

We focused on the miracle foods of the 21st century Thursday at the Team Challenge. Avocados, almonds and olive oil, were some of the “good for me foods” on the list today.  Although we looked at the amazing benefits that these foods offer, my encouragement was to eat responsibly. We can’t be in denial about the miracle foods, if these miracle foods are causing us to gain weight…or keep us from losing weight. These foods, if eaten, must be counted, measured and used as our ever important source of fat when we reach maintenance.

From “eating clean” to “organic” to “the good fats,” I moved through the list and shared the good news with the bad news.  The good news is important to look at. These miracle foods have huge benefits from lowering blood pressure, to fighting diseases. The bad news is that these foods although “healthy” if eaten without limits cause obesity.

And what are the health risks of obesity?
It makes you more likely to have conditions including:
Heart disease and stroke
High blood pressure
Some cancers
Gallbladder disease and gallstones
Breathing problems, such as sleep apnea and asthma

My desire this week was to educate and motivate. I educated my Healthy Weigh family about the facts on the best of foods to be eaten when we reach our goal weight but also made sure that they were motivated to make responsible choices once they add these foods back into their diets.

I’m thankful for the healthy foods that are so plentiful and available to all of us. I’m also thankful for the ability to set limits that allow us to use these foods to our benefit as we work to stay at a healthy weight.

Always encouraging and educating you,
